What is the explanation for dysfunction in organisations?
Every organisation has aspects that has room for improvement. Areas where if sharing with someone outside the organisation there would be some shame.
I’ve worked with many organisations and there are always areas where the quality is not up to the desired standard. Some examples, taken from real-life, might be:
The performance of the product is unacceptably slow.
Data quality may be so poor within the organisation it can’t be trusted for making decisions.
The customer service interactions are regularly rated poorly by customers.
Sales staff are often cheating each other out of sales.
Security is underinvested in leading to multiple breaches.
The organisation is losing its reputation due to how it’s perceived to handle private data.
Performance management is a net negative - a demotivator.
How does it get this way? What is the reason these issues can manifest and stay unaddressed for long periods of time in organisations?
