Group CTO Coaching
Learn with a peer group of CTOs
Group coaching offers the benefits of individual coaching with the advantage of insights from peers and the coach.
It is led by Daniel Walters, former CTO/CIO of Seek Asia (JobsDB, Jobstreet).
This proven group format has been running for over a year with CTOs in Australia. It builds upon years of individual coaching experience.
We conduct one-hour group sessions weekly.
I recommend that CTOs join at least fortnightly but are welcome to join all four monthly sessions.
I offer a couple of slots each session for individuals to audit a coaching session for free.
The cohort meets on Thursdays:
Southeast Asia - 2 pm MST, HKT, GMT+8.
Australia - 5 pm EDT
New Zealand - 7 pm NZDT
Note: These are group sessions involving participants from multiple companies. I also offer private group coaching for companies looking to support the growth of a group of tech leaders.
Why coaching for CTOs?
What’s in it for CEOs?
Does your CTO seem overly focused on the micro and lack time to address strategic issues for the company? Are they constantly fire-fighting, dealing with quality issues, or disappearing for long stretches only to surface with solutions that don’t meet the organisation's needs? Are you struggling to communicate effectively with your CTO and unsure whether the issue is with your approach or theirs?
I can help you both find common ground, empathy, and a greater understanding of how you can better support each other. In addition to coaching CTOs, I offer CEO check-ins as part of the service - usually a quarterly or bi-quarterly check-in to collect additional perspective on how your CTO is progressing as well as coaching and advice for you on how to support their growth and help you get the best out of the relationship;
What’s in it for CTOs?
CTOs, discover how you can move from merely surviving in the role to thriving and being the growth engine for your organisation.
As a CTO in Southeast Asia, you are no stranger to the unique challenges of the role.
The dynamic tech landscape and rapid digital transformation are just a few daily hurdles.
Technology is not just a tool or a cost centre but a catalyst for growth.
It has permeated every aspect of the organisation, and as a CTO, you're at the forefront of harnessing its power to meet the increasing demands on the Technology team.
Technology is not just a tool or a cost centre but a catalyst for growth.
The pace of change is accelerating, and Data, AI, Cloud, ubiquitous high-speed internet access, Data Privacy, CyberSecurity risk, and more are bringing challenges.
Users' sophistication and expectations are increasing, leading to more friction and demands on technology leaders.
Through coaching, I have seen transformational change in the CTOs I have worked with. They have gone from being overwhelmed to being on top of things, from fire-fighting to strategic planning, from feeling like an imposter to feeling like they belong in the role, from losing the room to commanding the room by leading with value.
If you are ready to see change and make progress:
What’s in it for aspiring CTOs?
I also offer coaching for aspiring CTOs. In addition to coaching on areas that contribute to you being a great CTO in the future, I cover what you need to do well in your current technology leadership role. That includes guidance on career path, learning and development and other aspects that can help you secure a CTO role in the future and hit the ground running.
About your CTO Coach, Daniel Walters
Hello, fellow tech leaders!
During my five-year tenure as CTO/CIO of Seek Asia, JobsDB and Jobstreet companies and employment marketplaces competed successfully against global giants such as LinkedIn, Indeed, Google, and Facebook.I led the integration of these businesses and teams from a technology and culture perspective. This included launching completely new user experiences for candidates and hirers on the web and mobile devices and job alert functionality, helping connect more people to jobs than before. We also improved the quality of the experience through improved availability, performance, and user experience. To achieve this, we adjusted our ways of working, culture, and values to meet the new challenges.
Making this progress can be challenging at the best of times. We achieved this during a volatile period, experiencing political unrest, natural disasters, and a global pandemic.
I experienced many challenging scenarios during my tenure and used these experiences to fuel my learning. Constantly assessing what is working and what can improved and a discipline to synthesise what I learn for the benefit of others has helped me hone my coaching skillset.
Since then, I have moved to New Zealand to raise my family. I've continued to grow my executive experience in a CPTO role, helping them raise more capital for a talent acquisition startup and, more recently, working with top companies in New Zealand and Australia as a Technology Strategy consultant and CTO coach.
I’ve helped CTOs in various company sizes across different industries and sectors find more focus, build more confidence, and make meaningful progress in managing the operational demands of their roles, taming their busy schedules, and achieving strategic goals.
Join my group coaching cohort; it’s affordable and effective. Start your journey to being a strategic CTO today.
Kind regards,
Daniel
